Our Efforts to Keep it Green at Onondaga Coach
Onondaga Coach has been a part of the motorcoach industry since 1953 and we’re proud of it. We’ve seen a lot of places over the years and bus travel is an exciting industry to be in but we understand we must do our part in helping our environment. Over the years we’ve continued to improve our fleet of buses and employed the newest technology as it has been developed. Just compare the benefits of taking a full bus versus a car – it adds up!
According to the American Bus Association (ABA)… If you are looking for a green way to travel, taking a bus is the way to go!
A single bus filled to capacity with 38, 55, or 56 people can replace that same amount of passenger vehicles that would have been traveling on the road! A full motorcoach can produce nearly 184 passenger miles per gallon (MPG), compared to 27 MPG from a single passenger car. Imagine how quickly this multiplies with multiple buses out on the road – think about how less congested our roads could be! Carbon dioxide emissions are reduced by an average of 85% per passenger mile for every person who chooses motorcoach travel instead of driving alone.
As we acquire new buses we are incorporating the latest clean diesel technology with them. Along with the engines, the exhaust systems are just as important. Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) are also added to bring the discharge of diesel exhaust to near zero. You won’t ever see clouds of black smoke coming from our newest buses because this filter burns off those particulates before they leave the bus. It’s amazing how far we’ve come and we’re excited to be doing our part to help our environment.
Another new advancement installed in our newest coaches is what's called Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF). This is specifically designed to reduce NOx (nitrogen oxide) emmissions.
